BODY COMPASSION MINDSET WORKSHOPS

Designed for girls in yr4-9.
This workshop is an educational and creative exploration of the ways girls are portrayed in the media vs how they really feel about themselves.
Designed to create a foundation for body compassion and healthier life choices, participants will understand why their body shape changes throughout puberty (and their lives).
We dissect advertising messages and examine real vs fake images with a critical lens so girls becomes savvy to the tactics used by companies that make girls and women feel bad about the way they look.
3 workshop components:
DECODING ADS (1hr)
1. Dissecting visuals and language used in ads.
2. Critical enquiry of real vs fake images using photoshop & filters.
We assess video sequences of:
+ The 'ideal' body shape throughout history noting how frequently it changes. + Impact fake images have on young women.
+ Time lapse of photoshoot to finished product highlighting image manipulation.
Students create collaborative poster outlining ads messages vs how they really feel about their bodies before these messages make an impact.
BODY DIVERSITY (1hr)
1. Focusssing on function over aesthetics.
2. What can different bodies do. What can yours do?
3. Exploring empowering language for all types of bodies.
Students create their own bespoke Body Affirmation cards.
DEVELOPING A BODY COMPASSION MINDSET (1hr)
1. Self talk. How to treat your body like your best friend.
2. We come in all shapes and sizes. Embracing your unqiueness.
3. Healthy habits = respecting your body.
4. The power of your mindset.
Students create a personal artwork poster of their self talk and a list of Supportive Statements they can use to empower their mindset to have a healthier relationship with their body.

+ Develop a critical, intelligent viewpoint of the way media is used to make them feel bad about the way they look.
+ Understand how and why their body size and shape changes naturally throughout puberty (and their lives).
+ Develop practises that support healthy body choices.

+ Embrace their uniqueness.
DELIVERY DETAILS
Workshops are designed for year 4/5/6/7/8/9 girls.
Book one or all three workshops so students integrate the positive messages, have more authentic conversations about the relationship to their bodies and healthier language throughout their class and the cohort.
